After the shooter has made a come out roll and a point, what bets should a craps player consider first. The list of possibilities starts with taking odds on the come out point, then come bets, place bets, buying the four or the ten and then not betting big six or big eight, no field bets and hardways only if the table is hot for shooters. This list of do’s and don’ts is the best way to play craps and cut the house edge to as little as possible. Proper craps betting can cut the house edge to just about even odds, and then the winner will be decided by pure luck and not by bad wagering on the part of the player. Playing craps badly is a dumb way to play as the proper way to play is not that hard to learn. The bets in this description are for do pass betters. The don’t pass better would be doing just the opposite.
After a point is made the better should take the odds on the point to the maximum the house will allow. At some casinos this can be 3 to one up to ten to one of the original pass line bet. The next bet to consider is place bets or buying the four or the ten. Making place bets is easy; just ask the houseman what amount they will allow to be played to get the correct odds on a place bet and what is the maximum they will allow. The same question should be asked for buying the four or the ten. Both of these wager types are the best way to get extra bets down on the hot shooters roll. The come bet is also okay as this bet is just like the pass line bet and can allow max odds on the wager if a point is thrown. I personally like the place bets and the buying of the four or the ten than to making a series of come bets. These bets are easier to keep track of on a very hot table with lots of bets coming in from the mass of betters that the hot table will draw like iron filings to a magnet.
The hardways should only be played if the table is having long runs without the dreaded seven showing and the hardways are coming up. The way I play these numbers is buy them all and if they become losing bets do not replace them. Let the hardways run and do not take the bet off on a come out roll. Never bet the big six or the big eight, as these are sucker bets, as they do not pay the correct odds. The same is true for bets in the field. Craps, eleven or twelve are bets that should be made on a hunch and are only good for one roll. If you do make the bet and it hits press the wager as I have seen these numbers repeat four times in a row. I personally like to split my bet between the eleven and the twelve. If the bet is $25 dollars then that means that you have $12.50 on each wager. If the bet hits then press it to $50, to $100 to $200. I have won this type of bet several times in my gaming career and the pay off was in the thousands when the fourth roll hit. Do not make this bet without some feeling or hunch, as it will lose often.
